Mauritau | Māori Mindfulness | Resources
Retreats | Workshops
I am a descendant of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Whātua in the north and grew up largely in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland) and Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). As a secondary school teacher for 11 years in both English-medium and Kura Kaupapa Māori I was fortunate enough to fill my kete with experiences and learnings that sustain me and carry me in many settings. In the last couple of years, I have been involved in teacher education through supporting and serving te reo Māori teachers in developing their transformative practice. I am humbled to be completing a Ph.D. at the University of Waikato, written in te reo Māori on Mauritau (mindfulness) in Kura Kaupapa Māori. My involvement in consultancy work for the last three years, mostly around Māori mindfulness has been life giving. Through facilitating workshops, translating and recording contemplative practices, and conducted research I have grown as a research and consultant.
Most importantly though, I am a mother and a wife and nurturing my pā harakeke is the most important thing to me.
He uri ahau nō Ngāpuhi me Ngāti Whātua. I tupu ake ahau i te Tai Tokerau me Tāmaki Makaurau. Kua 11 tau ahau i tū hei kaiako kura tuarua i ngā kura aunoa me ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori. I ēnei tau tata, i tū hei kaihāpai ahau mō ngā kaiako pia i ā rātou māhi whakaako.
